Jank To Resign From Brazil Sugarcane Group Unica
03/27/2012

Key Brazilian sugarcane-industry association Unica said Tuesday its president, Marcos Jank, plans to step down after some five years on the job.

The decision isn´t effective immediately, as Jank plans to continue at Unica´s helm until a replacement is found.

Unica said its board of directors was notified of Jank´s resignation at a monthly meeting Tuesday and plans to begin looking for a new president in coming days.

Jank has served as president of Unica since 2007. His tenure was marked by greater relations between the sugarcane industry and Brazil´s government and a higher profile internationally for the organization, which opened offices in Washington and Brussels in 2007 and 2008.

Unica said Brazilian sugarcane ethanol scored two major victories in the U.S. since Jank took the helm at the association. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency designated sugarcane ethanol an advanced biofuel in 2010, while last year, Congress allowed a three-decade-old import tariff on ethanol.
